Massive sounds like a generic VA ('virtual-analog')synth of the mid 90's.cool if you like it. you mean it's a sound-designer's wet dream.if so.
is so easy to patch up.Īlthough you can go very deep with it indeed! Simple 'subtractive'/fm/granular synthesis. I can see you're a preset-surfer and not a sound builder.Ībsynth4 is much more capable and not just for pads/soundscapes. So if you are looking for ambiences and pads as a priority I would suggest Absynth, otherwise Massive is your friend. It has more range and variety than what's supplied in Absynth.įor textural soundscapes, both are quite good, but Absynth would have my vote marginally. Massive isn't terrible for pads, and has a lot of programmability to make excellent evolving pads, but in the box presets give Absynth the lead.įor basses and leads, Massive. Massive and Absynth all comes down to what you prefer and need.įor pads, I would say Absynth all the way, it has always had phenomenal pads. Albeit FM8 comes with better presets and stuff like the arpeggiater and FX are quite good. Leedsquietman wrote:Having Operator means that FM8 would be the least different/potentially useful one. Massive gives me inspiration for techno/electro tunes and Absynth for ambient/soft trance. Yeah, pads or fats? Would like to get both worlds. I might get some sounds from it every now and then but I feel that it's gonna be left out most of the time. I started to think that does my old Roland MC-808 have its say in this but probably not - it's anyway hardware and needs to be sampled or recorded as audio and so it does not bring any easy workflow bonuses. Massive is more easy to tweak in the beginning but Absynths mutate button is also something rewarding.
Both give good sound and inspire but as you guys say in a different way.
I played last night with both of them and it's still hard to say though.
Reaktor is out of the question (out of the free coupon that is).Īnd considering your feedback I see that I can drop FM8 out of the consideration too.Īnd it seems to go to direction of Massive. Bu tit has in creativity and lots of "patches" (i.e. I think Reaktor is the Best Synth ever, even though it might not have the highest quality in sound. So I think I would pick Absynth.īut in the end, if Reaktor is available, the question should not be asked. Its a difficult choice, I think you should keep in mind, what you get with suite 8, so FM8 you do not need perhaps because you'll have operator. Absynth is also cool, but I still have to get used to the workflow and things (for example LFO/ENV modulation seems so be cryptical somehow). Massive is heavy on CPU, but also offers some possibilities to manage it, like lower quality modes. I rarely used massive, but the presets are good, but in my opinion they are already sequenced too much (like "press a keay and ready is the song"), but you will have recognized it during Demo. For me, I found FM8 great for Basslines (but this might be Operator also, dont know). All of these Instruments are good, I think (making Goa/Psytrance most of the time).
